I used to dread the holidays because I knew that I was going to be surrounded by food making me feel as though I was even more out of control, inevitably gaining more weight.

And I felt like there was absolutely nothing I could do about it. As if I was just going to gain weight anyway so what’s the point?

Now I look forward to this time of year because I no longer feel out of control around food. I get to simply enjoy the holidays, and yes, all of the delicious food without feeling overly-full.

You see I now accept that this time of year will bring about a lot more food that I normally do not eat in large amounts. And that’s totally fine!

When people aren’t prepared for the holiday season though, here is what normally happens…

They will go into the multiple eating situations with rules about what they can and cannot have..

Or how much of each food they can have…

And then they will beat themselves up if they slip up on any of the rules they set for themselves.

What’s worse is setting rules around what and how much they eat leads to deprivation and ultimately overeating.

What then makes this even worse though is if they don’t have any rules it’s almost a guarantee they will overeat.

So what they heck are we supposed to do…right?

Just throw up our hands and accept that we will be heavier come January?

Well this doesn’t have to be this way.

There IS a way out of this reoccurring mess that most people just accept as a normal part of the year.
