Lessons from my “Sex and the City” Binge-A-Thon

You heard it right… I have recently been gifted an HBO go account on my Apple TV. As soon as I opened this new app on my TV I immediately searched for my all time favorite show “Sex and the City.”

Back in high school my girlfriends and I would get together to watch the episodes and even tried to mimic this four-somes regular dining experiences pretending we were the younger Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda.

There were a few problems… we didn’t live in New York, we couldn’t drink legally and as teenagers we definitely didn’t have the sex life these women did.

So now watching as an adult it’s been so much fun… especially as an almost married women.

I am not going to lie to you, I have been watching this series pretty much every minute I am not working. I eliminated my shame, guilt and judgement the minute I began tearing up episode after episode. Happy tears, sad tears… you name it, I felt it.

And for someone that hasn’t been able to feel deeply in many years it was an incredible experience. I can’t tell you how important it is to feel. I mean truly, feel deeply.

When life gets stressful we have two choices…

1. Become completely overwhelmed, anxious and completely on edge

2. Become completely numb to avoid the stress and all that life is throwing at you altogether.

Subconsciously I chose the second option about 3 years ago when life became too much to handle.

I know how life can play out when you become numb to emotions and choose to stuff them away through binge eating, too much wine and Busy-ness.

I also know how detrimental this is to your body and your life.

No you don’t need to watch a “Sex and the City” marathon to feel again, but I ask you this…

Are you really allowing yourself to feel deeply or are you afraid of what would happen if you did?

If you feel inclined to share your experience (which would be awesome!) comment below and let me know where you stand with your feelings today.
