Yup. That’s it. Once again, the years of struggle and hardship are reduced to something so simple.
Not only is this not a solution for long-term weight loss. It’s a surefire way to create some major dysfunctional and disordered eating patterns.
The article states: “If you write down every bite you take, it will make you more mindful of all the extra calories you consume without even realizing.”
I really hate when people throw the word mindful around like this. Because then when I tell people the importance of mindful eating this is what they think of.
Obsessive food logging. Just say no people.
What does obsessive food logging bring? Awareness of habits. And in theory, this sounds helpful.
But let me ask something to all my peeps out there who want to lose weight…
Are you aware that you may consume more food than you need?
Like do you really need, a food log to tell you that you may be eating too much???
Now the idea of the food log is it tells you exactly how much you over-consume. But how does this teach you to eat when you are hungry? How does this teach you to recognize your emotions instead of eating through them? How does this help you realize your numbing patterns and learn how to breathe at this moment?
Oh, that’s right it doesn’t.
It doesn’t teach you anything other than what you already know and it creates an obsession around calories and food.
Hey, food logs, Mindfulness called… it wants its meaning back.
